Debbie has been a carer with North Lanarkshire Council for 12 years. She has experience of most types of care; she has adopted, provided respite care and fostered both temporarily and permanently. In our interview she talks about her experience of temporary fostering.
She describes her desire to provide a loving home for children where they feel nurtured. Every child that she’s cared for has been unique with a particular story to tell and their own set of needs. She talks about the importance of developing a set of boundaries and structures specific to each child because they are all so different.
She explains that whilst it’s difficult when temporary fostering placements come to an end, it is nevertheless a happy ending with the child moving onto a forever home or returning to their birth family. She urges anyone with space in their home and heart to consider embarking on, potentially, one of the most rewarding journey’s of their life.
