Tom and Mary are experienced carers with North Lanarkshire Council. Over the years they have been involved in every type of care. They began as temporary foster carers and more recently have returned to this role which they describe as helping fulfill the needs of a child whilst he or she is unable to be at home.
Tom and Mary talk extremely warmly of their experiences, Tom describing it as like someone telling you you’ve just won the lottery. Mary talks of the small everyday things that you can do to make life a little easier for each child that comes through the door. She also talks about the recruitment process and how much she has loved working with the council.
Both talk about the sadness they feel as a placement comes to an end, but stress that this is tempered by the knowledge that it’s a positive move forward for the child. They talk of picking themselves up and preparing for the next adventure, safe in the knowledge that there will always be another child that needs their help.
